Raymond Curtis
Bogan, Sr.
August 7, 1948 – March 22, 2025
Mr. Raymond Curtis Bogan, Sr., one of twelve siblings, was born on August 7th, 1948, to the late John and Ella Bogan. He received his education in Spalding County, Georgia, and graduated from Fairmont High School. At the age of 19, he was drafted into the Army, where he earned several commendations, including the Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, and a Marksman Award. He also joined the Army National Guard. After completing his service in both the Army National Guard and the United States Army, he was honorably discharged in 1972 and 1974, respectively. He furthered his education at Griffin Technical School, now known as Southern Crescent Technical College, where he obtained multiple diplomas in Automotive Mechanics, Commercial Truck Driving, and Welding.
Raymond took over his father's carpentry and roofing business, renaming it Raymond Bogan Roofing Company. Additionally, he worked at Ford Motor Company for over 30 years before retiring.
Having dedicated his life to the Lord at a young age, Raymond was a lifelong member of Saint Phillip African Methodist Episcopal Church. Throughout his life, he served faithfully in various roles, including Trustee, Usher, Choir Member, Church Grill Master, and he contributed to the maintenance of the church grounds, volunteering his services whenever needed.
Raymond was affiliated with several organizations, including American Legion Post 546, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 1, United Auto Workers Local 882, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8480.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Bogan, whom he married in July 2013; his son: Raymond Bogan, Jr.; Stepson: Dr. Nathaniel (Roslyn) Chatman; grandson: Raymond Bogan, III; step-grandson: Noah Chatman; step-granddaughter: Layla Moore; and brothers: Charles Bogan, Sr., Robert Bogan, Sr., Eddie (Janice) Bogan, James (Carol) Bogan, and Randy (Annie) Bogan; two close friends: Joseph Troupe and Quonsent "Cornbread" Douglas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members and friends.
Raymond will be deeply missed!
