Reflections of Life and Legacy for Joeann S. Compton

Mother Joeann S. Compton , a beloved wife, loving mother, dedicated educator and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5th, 2025, at Piedmont Henry Hospital. She was born on December 30th, 1950, in Henry County to the late Traily Mae Russell and the late Jack Stinson.

A lifelong learner, Joeann was educated in the Henry County School System and went on to become a proud Alumna of West Georgia College. Her passion for teaching led her back to the Henry County School System, where she dedicated many years to shaping young minds.

Joeann's true love for the sport of Tennis was profound. She became a certified tennis coach, guiding two of her pupils, Alicia and Mikayla Parks, on their journey to becoming Professional Tennis Players. Her dedication to the sport took her to play at the renowned Nick Bollettieri Academy, now known as the IMG Academy. Her legacy will forever be honored as the Staple Figure for the Joeann Compton Tennis Center, and through the designation of the Joeann Compton Highway.

She found enduring love in her marriage of 40 years to her husband, Herman Compton, Jr. Together, they raised two children. Joeann was a faithful member of New Big Springs Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities, with a special love for the Choir Ministry. In her quiet moments, she loved spending time outdoors, planting flowers, and playing with her beloved canine companion, Roxy.

Mrs. Compton was preceded in death by her siblings Ethel Mae Turner, Betty Jean Allen, and Tracy D. Haygood.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Her devoted and loving husband, Herman Compton, Jr.; Her two children: Cortez Compton and Quentice Dillard-Compton; Four Grandchildren; Her sisters: Cynthia and Pricilla Simmons, and Harriette Scott; Brother-in-law: Deaderick (Emma) Compton; Sister-in-law: Lanier (Frederick) Norwood; and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, other relatives, church family, and dear friends.
