IN LOVING MEMORY

~ Reflections of Life ~

Mother Opal Lee "Candy" Hollis was born on September 5, 1943, in Spalding County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy and Emma Lou Prather. Five sisters and three brothers preceded her in death: Clara Prather, Mary Helen Gibbs, Mary Etta Barkley, Rosa Lee Moore, Annie Catherine (Beaver) Sanders, Clarence Prather, Willie B. Prather, Sr., and Jimmy (Bubba) Prather. She joined Corinth Baptist Church at an early age where she was a dedicated member and served on the Usher's Ministry for over 50 years. She entered into rest on Monday, July 8, 2024, at WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital.

She was educated in Spalding County and attended Fairmont High School in Griffin, GA. She was employed in Spalding County for several years at United Cotton Goods. Opal also worked for Spalding Regional Hospital where she began her career in the laundry facility and transitioned to the Dietary/Nutrient field for several years. Because she was a nurturer and a great cook, she decided to transition to the school system. Opal retired after 15 years from Griffin High School.

Opal Prather met and married the love of her life Leon (Bip) Hollis on March 22, 1962, in Griffin, GA and they have been together for '65' years. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, watching sports on TV, fishing, gardening, and gospel programs, especially when "Leon" was singing. She was a dedicated Braves and Falcons fan and enjoyed watching them with 'Lee' which she affectionately called him. Opal and Leon were faithful members of the Union Society Lodge for over 50 years.

Opal leaves to cherish her loving memory: her devoted husband: Leon Hollis; one daughter: Deborah (Rodney) Jester; three grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; one sister: Annie Ruth Underwood of Hampton, GA, two brothers: J. W. Prather (Shirley) of Kissimmee, FL and James (Bosie) Prather of Griffin, GA; one aunt: Bessie Mae Richardson of Griffin, GA; two brothers-in-law: Marion (Margaret) Hollis and Larry Hollis; two sisters-in-law: Elaine (Derrick) Jackson and Rosnell Moreland; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other special family members and friends who she cherished.
