Mother Betty Josie, age 89, entered into eternal rest surrounded by love and peace. A devoted woman of faith, Betty was a firm believer in God and lived her life in a way that reflected His grace, compassion, and kindness.

Born into a close-knit family, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jake Josie, and all of her siblings: Lewis Smith, Louise Miller, Amos Smith, John Lewis Smith, Jonnie Mae Dewberry, and Marion Parks. As the last surviving member of her immediate family, she carried their legacy with dignity, strength, and a heart full of love. She also shared a special lifelong bond with her sister/cousin, Geraldine Howard, a relationship she treasured deeply.

Though she did not have children of her own, Betty was blessed with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and grandchildren who adored her. She poured her love into every generation, and they will forever remember her as a gentle, supportive, and guiding presence in their lives.

Betty retired from the Spalding County School System, where she dedicated many years of service with patience, care, and a genuine love for helping others. Outside of work, she enjoyed the simple joys of life—especially fishing and cooking, two passions she shared freely with those around her. Betty loved everyone, and she did everything she could to support, uplift, and care for others. Her love was steadfast, unwavering, and unconditional.

Betty leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, kindness, and generosity. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Psalm 73:26

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

“A Life Well Lived”

A life well lived is a precious gift,

Of hope and strength and grace,

From someone who has made our world

A brighter, better place.

It’s filled with moments, sweet and warm,

With smiles and laughter, too,

With kindness that can never fade,

And love that still shines through.

And though we cannot see you now,

Your spirit lives on strong,

For nothing beautiful ever dies,

It stays within us—ever long.
