Evangelist Hattie Mae Taylor-Compton exemplified the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31:10-31. A woman of faith, strong in character and wisdom. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and source of inspiration for so many.

She was born February 26th, 1939, in Locust Grove, Georgia to the late James and Johnnie Mae Taylor. The 3rd eldest child of 12 children in a family comprised of 5 girls and 7 boys. She grew up in a household filled with laughter, togetherness, hard work and love for each other and the Lord. She was educated in the Henry County School System.

Soon after, in August of 1959, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Herman Compton, Sr. and to this union came 3 beautiful children. She also took into her home a young teenaged nephew, Reginald Hawthorne and raised him to adulthood. As a wife and mother, Hattie worked faithfully to help provide for her family. Like a "Momma Hen" she nurtured and cared for her children from babies to thriving adults.

Hattie worked at KIM Company, in Jackson, Georgia for a while. She later gained employment with J.C. Penny's Outlet in Forest Park, Georgia from 1973 until 1998. Retiring from J.C. Penny's ended her work-world employment but ignited a forever employment with the Lord.

At an early age, Hattie embraced her faith and was baptized at the New Big Springs Baptist Church in Locust Grove, GA (formerly Luella). Her membership became a lifelong goal until her death. She did much and achieved much. Some of her accolades were: Sunday School Teacher for 50+ years; served under Rev. Askew Anderson as Assistant Interim Pastor; and was ordained Evangelist by Rev. Cochran of Floyd Chapel in Stockbridge, GA.

Hattie transitioned to her eternal rewards on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents: James & Johnnie Mae Taylor; her beloved husband: Herman Compton, Sr.; and siblings: Annie Ruth, Frank, Johnny and Robert.

Hattie's legacy of Love and Strength continues through her surviving family: daughter: Lanier (Fred) Norwood; sons: Deaderick (Emma) Compton, Herman (Joeann) Compton, Jr.; 4 grandchildren: Cortez Compton, Deaderick Compton, Jr., Quantriece Dillard, Ashley Norwood; 4 great-grandchildren: Catherine, Aariana, Gabriel and Cortavious; Siblings: Lizzie Miller, Willie James Taylor, Sarah (Cyrus) Allen, Joseph (Betty) Taylor, Lorenzo Taylor, Patsie Taylor and Ray Taylor; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

"While we mourn the loss of this virtuous woman, we know Evangelist Hattie Mae Compton fought the good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith."
