In Loving Memory of Dexter Avant
Dexter Avant, affectionately known as “Dex,” was a beloved son, father, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend whose presence touched the lives of many. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Dexter was known for his intelligence, strong opinions, and genuine love of learning. He had a deep interest in history and enjoyed researching a wide variety of topics. Whether discussing historical events, current affairs, politics, or life’s many mysteries, Dexter never shied away from a thoughtful conversation or spirited debate. His curious mind and wealth of knowledge made him someone people often turned to for insight and discussion.
Born and raised in Clayton County, Georgia, Dexter attended school there and spent much of his life working and building relationships within the community. He valued family, friendship, and loyalty, and those who knew him best will remember his unique personality, his determination, and the impact he had on those around him.
Above all else, Dexter was a devoted father. His greatest pride and joy was his son, Alijah Derrick Avant, whom he loved unconditionally. He cherished every opportunity to be a part of his son’s life and was immensely proud of the young man he was becoming. Dexter also shared a special bond with many of the children in his family, who brought him great happiness.
On May 22, 2026, Dexter departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved son, Alijah Derrick Avant; his loving parents, Valerie Avant and Jerry Lee Avant; his devoted sister, April Meredith Avant McGuirt; his brother, Derrion Emmanuel Avant; and the cherished memory of his late brother, Derrick Jerome Avant.
He is also survived by his aunts, Delores Bagley, Renee Bagley, and Bertha Bagley; his uncle, Oscar Hampton; and was preceded in death by his uncle, Theodore Bagley Jr.
In addition, Dexter leaves behind three beloved stepsisters, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will forever treasure the memories, laughter, conversations, and moments they shared with him.
Though Dexter’s time with us was far too short, his love, wisdom, and spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will remain a lasting source of comfort, strength, and inspiration for all who were blessed to be part of his life.

In Loving Memory of My Son
Dexter, My Son:
Son, when I think of you and the reality of carrying on without you, I hardly know where to begin. You were such a big part of my life, and your absence has left a space that can never truly be filled.
So many times I find myself searching for a way forward, trying to discover what life looks like without you here. Yet no matter where my thoughts take me, they always return to you—to the love we shared, the memories we created, and the bond that will forever remain in my heart.
You were more than my son; you were my friend. You were someone I could talk to, laugh with, confide in, and depend on. The conversations we shared and the moments we spent together are treasures I will carry with me always.
I thank God for the time He allowed us to have together. Though my heart aches in your absence, I find comfort in knowing that love never ends. You will always be a part of me, and your memory will live on in every beat of my heart.
I love you, Son, more than words can ever express, and I will miss you every day for the rest of my life.
Forever loved, forever remembered, forever my son.
With all my love,
Mom
