"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:"

2 Timothy 4:7

James H. Scott passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, at WellStar Hospital in Griffin, Georgia. He was born on November 18, 1928, and was lovingly raised by his mother, the late Mrs. Marie Scott Walters, and his stepfather, the late James Walters, Sr. until his mother's passing when he was very young. After his mother's death, he was raised by his grandparents, Oscar and Esther Scott.

Educated in the Spalding County School System, James grew into a hardworking and devoted man. On March 15, 1947, he married the love of his life, Jessie Adams Scott, and together they built a beautiful life. Their union was blessed with two children, Eddie J. Scott, who preceded him in death, and Jeanette Scott Edwards.

In his early years, James worked at Holand Industries and in the automobile industry. In 1969, he pursued his passion for mechanics by establishing Scott's Service Station, which became one of the longest-operating Black-owned businesses in Griffin. Renowned for his expertise in auto repairs, especially in solving complex diagnostic issues, he helped countless people throughout the city. In addition to his work as a business owner, James dedicated over 20 years of service as a school bus driver for the Griffin-Spalding County School System before retiring.

James' faith was the cornerstone of his life. He joined Pine Grove Baptist Church at a young age and remained a devoted member for 75 years. For approximately 35 of those years, he served as chairman of the Deacon Board, leading with wisdom, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to his church family.

He was preceded in death by his two younger siblings, James "Bubba" Walters, Jr. and Mamie Lee Burton.

James leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 77 years, Jessie Adams Scott; his daughter, Jeanette Scott Edwards (Willie); daughter-in-law, Valerie Scott; four grandchildren, Angela Porter (Jasper), Bryson Edwards (Monique), Valicia Scott, and Jeremy Scott; two great-grandchildren, Brielle and Brooklyn Edwards; three sisters-in-law, Evangelist Margie Falling, Connie Adams and Carolyn Ison; one brother-in-law, Rev. J.H. Adams (Ozelle); Nieces, Nephews and other relatives and friends.

James lived a full and vibrant life, touching the hearts of many along the way. His legacy of faith, service, and love will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
