In Loving Memory of Deacon Johnny B. Banks, Sr.
Deacon Johnny B. Banks, Sr., was born on October 2nd, 1937, in Lamar County, Georgia, to the late Mother Dulvae Banks. He was called Home to be with the Lord on September 9th, 2025, leaving behind a profound legacy of faith, family, and unwavering service.
Deacon Banks received his early education in the Lamar County school system. He was united in Holy Matrimony with his beloved wife, Geraldine Whatley Banks, and they shared 63 wonderful years together until her transitioning.
A man of great diligence and commitment, Deacon Banks worked faithfully at the Griffin Moose Lodge for 52 years. His dedication extended deeply into his spiritual life more so. He served as a pillar of Shiloh Baptist Church for over 60 years, where his wisdom, steadfast faith, and constant study of the Bible were an inspiration to all. His devotion to his church family was evident in his every action.
Deacon Banks was truly a caring man who hated to see anyone hurt or hungry. He was known for his generous spirit, always taking food and giving money to the sick and those in need. He never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with an open heart. He deeply loved his family and took great pride in his grandchildren. A strong believer in the power of knowledge, it was profoundly important to him that all his children and grandchildren pursued and obtained a college education.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Geraldine Banks; his brother, Bill Banks; and his sisters, Mattie Yarborough and Geneva Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving children, Johnny Banks, Jr. (Phyllis), Lisa Banks, Sherry Banks Britt (Quinton), Michael Banks (Kendra), and Kim Banks. His legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren, Lauren Gibson, Jamaha Dumas, Chelsea Britt, Ashley Britt, Kiana Banks, and Kaleb Banks; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Clifford Banks; one sister, Effie Wilcox; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and dear friends.
Deacon Johnny B. Banks, Sr., will be remembered as a devout man of God, a loving patriarch, and a steadfast friend to his community. His light will continue to shine in the countless lives he touched.
