Obituary

"Genan" was born to the late Arthur Jr. and Rosa Mae Byars in Griffin, Georgia on April 15th, 1957.

She transitioned from this earthly life, surrounded by love, on January 24th, 2025. Preceding her in death is her grandson: Kierston Akins; sisters: Carolynn Caldwell and Jeanette Jones; grandparents: Willie and Hattie Sims and also Ludie Brown.

In 1974, Genan met the love of her life, Gary L. Akins and from this union blossomed three children.

Most know her for being loving, always full of fun and very protective of those she loved. Along with laughter and having fun being who she is, Genan loved to dance!

Genan was no stranger to anyone and especially children. She loved playing games with children. Although she would fuss and discipline they would keep coming back. It's true that love draws.

Often when you saw her, she had a child or children with her. She had the gift of caregiving and a passion for the youth, the elderly and the sick that was extraordinary.

She played softball for 20 years, coached softball and umpired youth softball for 15 years.

Genan leaves to cherish her memories her husband: Rev. Gary Akins; sons: Winfred(Kelesa) and Lamaris(Latishia); daughter: Salecia(Greg); godchildren: Carmen(Will), Thomas(Jalynn); adopted child: Teresa(Danny); special children: Sam Sheppard, Messiah Combs and Calvert Johnson; grandchildren: Taja, Kyler, Kyndall, Cameron, Ellis, Duke, Deacon, Eli, Ashton, Noah, Kaleb and Blake; great-grandchild: Kamron; two brothers: Christopher Byars and Mitchell(Mary) Byars; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
